Adult Programs
Travel Program
The Travel Program is a long-running series of travelogue/slide shows put on by a variety of our local travelers. It is held the first Thursday night of the month at 7:30 pm from October through December and February through June in our Wales French Meeting Room. If you love to travel, but don't have the time or money right now, you will find our Travel Program series an easy way to journey without moving, and have a great time meeting your neighbors!
Book Discussion Group
Another more recently developed series is our Book Discussion Group. This group began in the fall of 1997 and has been going strong ever since. There are monthly meetings held on Thursdays at 7:00 pm. The books have been both fiction and non-fiction and have been by an eclectic lot: authors from Barbara Kingsolver and Jane Austen to James Carroll. Some choices have been One for the Money by Janet Evanovich, The Great Railway Bazaar: By Train Through Asia by Paul Theroux, and July's People by Nadine Gordimer - an equally eclectic selection. The members always have a great time discussing any and all of the books chosen, even if it turns out a member might not even like a particular book!
Adult Programs
There is also a series of Adult Programs scheduled every month which are of a more varied nature. For example, we had a speaker from the New England Historical and Genealogical Society give a talk on "Genealogy for Beginners". We've had portrayers of Amelia Earhart, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Louisa May Alcott. In December we usually have our local "Grace Notes Handbell Choir" perform Songs of the Season. We also have had programs showing and giving the background of "Egg Decorating Faberge Style", and one on "Titanic Remembrances". As you can see from this small selection of our past selections, our Adult Programs series has something for everyone!
All of these Adult Programs are held in our Wales French Meeting Room. Assistance for the disabled is available upon request with adequate notice and light refreshments are served. For a list of specific dates you may check our program calendar, obtain flyers from the Library, check the local newspaper and cable station listings, or contact Josh Olshin, Reference/Adult Service Librarian at the Stoughton Public Library at (781) 344-2711.
