OUTREACH SERVICES

The Outreach Program at Stoughton Public Library is a service for all Stoughton residents who may have short or long-term disabilities.  The Outreach Coordinator, Andrea Rounds delivers library materials to those who are physically unable to visit the library as well as to long-term care facilities.

The Coordinator delivers large print books, regular print books, magazines, audio books on tape or CD, compact discs, videos, and DVDs.  The library also has a collection of descriptive videos in VHS format for anyone who is visually impaired to borrow.

Deliveries are done every other week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  The Coordinator will ask you about your reading tastes, interests and preferences and arrange a convenient delivery time.  Most library materials go out for a period of 2 weeks.

The library also owns 3 magnifying devices called "travellers".   The traveller is a small portable unit that magnifies print up to 16 times.  This machine can help visually impaired people read or view photographs.  It is very helpful with daily tasks such as reading labels at the grocery store or managing your checkbook.  It goes out for one month at a time.

The library also owns 4 Optelec 17" color monitor-magnifying units. These units allow the user to magnify reading material from 2 to 50 times.  One magnifier remains in the library for patron use, the other 3 are available for borrowing.  These units are delivered to your home and set up by the Outreach Coordinator.  They go out for 2 months at a time.
